About Christina

Whatever you are going through with your dog, I have likely lived with it too. I have had 11 dogs of my own and countless fosters. I’ve had dogs with behaviour challenges due to abuse, lack of socializing, lack of training, and due to medical reasons.

I have been working with higher-needs dogs for almost 30 years, since I brought my first little rescue dog home and started fostering.   I am also a guest instructor for Fenzi Dog Sports Academy, teaching both Leash Reactivity and Intra-Household Aggression.  I have also been teaching for Mike Shikashio and ‘Aggression in Dogs’ since 2023.

Maxi’s Story

14 years ago, I brought home Maxi, a not-quite-2-year-old mix.  She was at our local animal shelter and due to be euthanized. My friends and I fought to get her and the two huskies she was with out of there. It struck me as wrong that these 3 dogs were being euthanized for killing chickens – and one of the huskies was just 4 months old. I couldn’t stand by and let those dogs be put down for normal dog behaviour. Many dogs would kill chickens if left unsupervised and untrained, especially huskies and dogs who run with them!

The huskies went to a husky rescue, but border collie rescue said they would likely euthanize Maxi – and seeing as she was getting belly rubs, lying on her back in the middle of our king sized bed between my husband and I when that email came in – Maxi stayed.

We were Maxi’s 5th home. She was a lot of dog. I didn’t know that in addition to being a high energy dog with high prey drive, Maxi was also very leash reactive.  She broke two leashes in the first 3 months that I had her, and even pulled me down once.   I wasn’t yet a professional trainer, just a keen pet owner who helped out rescues, neighbours, and friends – I had no idea what to do.

I cried a lot. I wasn’t emotionally prepared to live with an aggressive dog again. I looked at Maxi and promised her that I would figure this out – and that I would figure it out without using any tools or techniques intended to scare or hurt her.

And we did it!

When she was 3, she started to go blind and her anxiety came back. She was fully blind by 5. We worked through her reactivity again, and this time it stuck.  Maxi eventually became my go-to dog for socializing others and certified as a Therapy Dog!

“I love how you work with people and the dogs. Non-judgmental, honest, thoughtful, kind, and humorous. You also meet people where they are at and work with their learning style, because not all people learn the same way. <3”

Your dream relationship is possible!

Training and games are customized to support both you and your dog. You’ll feel confident and excited taking your dog out into the world, welcoming friends over, and navigating everyday life together.

Stage 1: Prepare to learn

Are you and your dog ready to learn? In this stage we ensure both us and our dogs are physically, mentally, and emotionally ready to learn. Emotional regulation, confidence building, resilience building, and bonding with your dog – all of that happens here.

N

stage 2: Anticipate and Prepare for Surprises

Anticipating and preparing for challenges set you and your dog up to managing real-world moments while you and your dog are learning. These games help you walk by challenges and get out of trouble if you are taken by surprise.

N

Stage 3: Work the Challenges

What is important to you? Walking past other dogs? Chilling when you have friends over? Coming when called? Settling at a cafe? In this stage we use counter-conditioning and desensitization plans that are specific to your dog’s needs and your goals

“And THATS the difference between you and others <3 you are in it for the people as well as the dogs.”

Does it matter if I'm new to dog training?

Not at all! Each team receives personalized coaching, so you will be met where you are, whether you are brand new or a professional trainer.

How much time do I have to commit?

You can watch the sessions and play with your dog whenever it works for you. Even 5 minutes two or three times a day can make a huge difference!

If you have more time, great! But we can be surprisingly efficient when we know how to leverage the time we do have.

My dog isn't THAT bad - Is this still for me?

Yes! The games and techniques in Dream Dog are the same ones I use to address small challenges as well as to prevent bigger ones. If your dog is already doing well, you’ll progress faster and further than if we are workign through bigger behavioural challenges.

I have a puppy - Is this for me?

Absolutely! This program is the foundation for my puppy raising to build our dream dog – our dream relationship, right from the start.

I'm not great with technology - is this going to be a barrier?

We will use a platform called Circle – it’s nice and intuitive. We will have tutorials and help along the way if you get stuck, and you can always ask for help.

Do I have to attend the weekly sessions live?

Nope! They are recorded so you can watch when you have time. If you know you won’t make it, you can also submit a question ahead of time, or post questions for feedback in our community.
